"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Mark Twain, author of 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'.

Travel is one of the most natural and healthy pastimes, satisfying our instinct to explore and discover. With travel comes communication, understanding and development. If nobody travelled, different races and cultures would never meet and knowledge would never be shared.

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."

St. Augustine

Today the world is undoubtedly getting smaller. The pace of change is unbelievably fast. Even in Bhutan, where the King protects the culture so carefully, outside influence is taking effect. Television arrived only in the late 1990s, but the Internet and other means of communication now mean that the people there can be as up-to-date with world affairs as anybody in the West.

"Travel is the frivolous part of serious lives, and the serious part of frivolous ones."

Anne Sophie Swetchine, Russian author

So, if you are in doubt, don't be. Embrace travel, be a force for good and share knowledge and understanding. Be as interested in different cultures and ideas as other people are of ours.

"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things."

Henry Miller, American novelist

It's important not to flaunt your comparative wealth in developing countries. Try to minimise any negative impact on the local environment, such as water usage, and use local services wherever possible. Respect other people's morals, culture, religion and customs.

"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move."

Robert Louis Stevenson, Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer

Wherever you travel, always take care to avoid unsafe countries or those where your money helps to support a corrupt regime (like Burma/Myanmar). Travel Inspirator is here to give advice and point you in the right direction, though the journey itself is yours to enjoy and give unique experience. The world is a wonderful place, experience it for yourself!

"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."

Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher
